Biografia del pittore

Viviano Codazzi was an Italian painter who lived during the Baroque period. He was born in Valsassina near Bergamo around 1604, and his family moved to Rome by 1605. Codazzi is known for his architectural paintings, capricci, compositions with ruins, and some vedute. He worked in Naples and Rome, and he is known in older sources as Viviano Codagora or il Codagora. Codazzi's paintings are characterized by their attention to detail and their ability to capture the grandeur of architectural structures. His works often feature ancient ruins, which he would depict with great accuracy and realism. One of his best-known paintings is a depiction of the Revolt of Masaniello in the Piazza del Mercato in Naples, in which the figures were painted by Cerquozzi. The work was made in 1648 on a commission by Cardinal Bernardino Spada and is now in the Galleria Spada in Rome. Codazzi's paintings were highly sought after during his lifetime, and he received many commissions from wealthy patrons. His works can be found in many museums and galleries around the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Museo di Palazzo Venezia in Rome. In addition to his paintings, Codazzi was also known for his drawings and etchings. He produced a series of etchings of ancient Roman ruins, which were highly regarded for their accuracy and attention to detail. His drawings and etchings were often used as models by other artists who were interested in depicting ancient ruins in their own works. Codazzi's legacy has endured long after his death, and his works continue to be admired by art lovers and scholars alike.
